Managing oral mucositis

If oral mucositis (OM) starts there is no need for people with cancer to end up hungry and silent. Management of oral mucositis is not easy but there are strategies available to help prevent and treat oral mucositis.

In a survey of nurses, oral mucositis has been indentified as the most debilitating and significant problem associated with cancer therapy to patients and to nurses.1 Proper management of oral mucositis requires assessment of the mouth before cancer therapy begins and regular checks for oral mucositis throughout treatment by doctors and nurses.

Always speak to your doctor or nurse if you are worried about oral mucositis.
